The Asphalt Pavement Alliance developed the prestigious Perpetual Pavement awards to recognize long-life asphalt pavements in the U.S. and honor asphalt pavements demonstrating outstanding design and construction.

State agencies and road owners have recognized the value of owning Perpetual Pavements. The APA accepts nominations for new roads that meet perpetual design. The nominations are reviewed and approved by the National Center for Asphalt Technology and qualifiied projects receive the Perpetual Pavement Award: By Design.

Award Winners

The APA’s Perpetual Pavement Award program is proud to recognize newly designed and constructed asphalt roads built over new subgrade that meet Perpetual Pavement criteria. Since 2020, the Perpetual Pavement: By Design award has been earned 32 times in 16 different states. In 2024, there were nine pavements that earned this recognition.

Winning agencies are honored by their state asphalt pavement association and are presented with an engraved crystal obelisk.

One key indicator of quality in construction is a smooth, long-life pavement. Long-life asphalt pavements serve the community, reduce the money needed for maintenance, and conserve raw materials, ultimately leading to a truly sustainable structure that exemplifies the triple bottom line.
